The Power of Presence:

Infusing Presence into the Realm of Toastmasters

Jean Keating and Jennifer Stensrud, two long-time members of Marsh Winds Toastmasters in Minnetonka, Minnesota, are passionate advocates for bringing “The Power of Presence” experience into the realm of Toastmasters. Ms. Keating and Ms. Stensrud also serve as founders and producers of the Lake Minnetonka area public access cable TV show, “Living an Aligned Life”, viewable through online streaming at www.lmcc-tv.org.

“The Power of Presence” meeting protocol, developed by Jean Keating, is a specialty theme that powerfully invites acknowledgment and opening of each participant’s innate potential, giftedness, and leadership capacity. “The Power of Presence” focuses on a speaker’s Way of Being, rather than on technical speaking structures or proficiency. The theme integrates the techniques of personal acknowledgment, personal presence, positive regard, authentic listening, deliberate creation, and intuitive speaking to accomplish its objectives. These techniques are inserted seamlessly into a standard Toastmasters format, and can be readily adapted to other meeting formats.

On September 11, 2008, Jean and Jennifer were invited to create “The Power of Presence” experience at the Spirit of Leadership Toastmasters Club, located in Plymouth MN. This meeting experience was filmed and will be aired on the “Living an Aligned Life” cable TV show, viewable from late November through year-end December 2008.
