My daughters and I went to a superhero event at the library today. Afterwords we went to lunch at the mall. My youngest, complete with facepaint, a mask, and a cape could not cope with the escalator without me to hold her. A mom who was on the escalator at the same time said "I guess the cape isn't enough." No, not always.
In my last story I talked about stepping into a role. It is very helpful to set the intention and mentally move into a new role or challenge. My daughter needed to be held for a short while on the elevator despite being a super hero.
Sometimes it is hard to admit that despite all of our bravado and commitment to a new challenge, we need the support of those around us. There is a lot of talk about belonging to a tribe these days. Seek out the support of your tribe. Even super heroes like the Justice League!
Toastmasters is one such tribe. There are others, but none so good for public speaking (and shhhh leadership too).
