Proposed Format for Recaps

I was visiting with Theo Black, DTM, at the Spring Conference and he had an interesting idea for the updates. One of his clubs uses a template to simplify giving a recap of a meeting. This is not to discourage creativity, but to encourage regular and efficient sharing of what went on at the meeting. I'm not suggesting it be required, only that it be an option to encourage participation in the reporting of meetings.

Here's a first attempt, please give your suggestions for a simple recap template:

Marshwinds Toastmasters Recap for the _____(theme)______ meeting on ___(date)___
___________ gave speech # ___ out of the _________ manual. The title was _____________. __________________(brief comment on the speech)
___________ gave speech # ___ out of the _________ manual. The title was _____________. __________________(brief comment on the speech)___________ gave speech # ___ out of the _________ manual. The title was _____________. __________________(brief comment on the speech)
________(name)________ won Toastmaster of the day because of __________________.
Thanks to _____________ for leading the meeting and to all of the participants.

"Travel Minnesota" Theme April 30th

Hello Toastmasters!

The theme for this weeks meeting is "Travel Minnesota". With the start of spring and the promise of summer we are embarking on a time when a lot of us start to make plans to explore the state we call home. Whether camping is your thing or you prefer the comforts of a far off, or close by hotel, the thoughts of sun filled days and fun filled nights are starting to linger. Come to the meeting to find out more!

Our roster is looking good for this weeks meeting! We are only in need of an ah counter and timer to make our meeting complete. If you are available please sign up to join us on this journey.

Safe travels,
Crissy

Meeting Recap - April 2, 2009

Thursday's meeting was the first in a very long time with all roles assigned prior to the meeting. One key role, however, needed to be filled at the last minute. Our Toastmaster was feeling under the weather and Tom Schmid graciously stepped into the role moments before the start of the meeting. The pre-selected theme was "April Fool's - Is being a fool so bad?" I guess our scheduled Toastmaster played the best April Fool's joke!

Dawn Anderson took Toastmaster of the Day honors with her wonderful ice breaker speech, "Things I've Been Called." A funny, insightful story that reminded us all of the many roles we play in our lives.

Crissy did an amazing job of telling us about her guardian angel and why we are foolish if we do not pay attention to our own guardian angels in her speech "The Visit."

Sandy delivered a Toastmasters "canned" speech on mental flexibility and imprinted it with her own personality and style. Not an easy task, but done extremely well. And she has now earned Advanced Communicator Gold status!

Pamela Rediger challenged us with Table Topics that were very thought provoking and unique.

Congratulations to everyone on a spectacular, energetic and fun meeting!

Breakfast Meeting - April 9th

Please join Marsh Winds Toastmasters for a breakfast meeting on Thursday, April 9th. Breakfast will be served, buffet style, fifteen minutes prior to the regularly scheduled club meeting (9:15-10:30). Guests will eat for free. The suggested contribution for members is $10.00. Please RSVP to Lisa Jenks or Sandy Ryan, or comment to this post below.

The theme for the meeting will be “Toastmasters’ Garden.” Throughout the meeting, the focus will be on the ways we grow through Toastmasters, showcasing the strengths and unique qualities of Marsh Winds Toastmasters.

In addition to breakfast, we plan to record and submit an original world record to www.urdb.org. One idea that I had was most crutch words used in one minute at a Toastmasters meeting, done round robin style. If anyone has a fun and unique idea of a record we might set, please contact Lisa Jenks or enter a comment to this blog post below.

Looking forward to being your Toastmaster,

Lisa Jenks
